Developer Team Lead for eCom team
We are looking for a long-term oriented and motivated Developer Team Lead to join the Kesko Onninen eCom-team. Either you are an experienced developer looking for your first official team lead -role, or you have already gained some experience from being a line manager and want to take on more responsibilities – this could be your next career move!
The Onninen eCom Team
The mission of the team is developing the Onninen eCom and digital solutions for Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Our team has developed own eCom-platform, Sales tool and mobile application for serving Onninen B2B businesses in mentioned countries. Dev team is a distributed and multinational agile software development team. We are fulfilling business needs by developing front-ends and microservice capabilities integrating with the back-ends. We subscribe to a DevOps-philosophy – everyone is empowered to not just implement features, but also to improve and support the platform.
Our team’s responsibilities :
– Developing and maintaining web applications and services using React, Next.js and Java (Spring). – Mobile development is done with React Native.
– Interacting with our stakeholders in a multinational environment
– Collaborating with designers and other developers to build high quality user interfaces
– Writing clean, maintainable and efficient code
– Ensuring our applications are fast, scalable and responsive
– Building and maintaining APIs using Next.js
– Managing data storage and retrieval using services such as PostgreSQL, Redis and Elasticsearch
– Participating in code reviews and sharing knowledge within the team
– Keeping up to date with the latest developments in web technologies
– Contributing to our team’s and Kesko’s software development practices
The Development Team Lead
The Team Lead is responsible for the technical leadership of our software developers (both in-house and consultants) in the team. You will act as a line manager to our in-house developers and QA engineers in the Onninen eCom Team and will report to Head of eCom Onninen. As a team lead you want to help our team’s developers succeed and grow, and you want to develop our technical ways of working in alignment with the needs of the platform. Part of the role is also recruiting new in-house developers.
In this role you get chance to
– Coach and mentor a software development team of 13 full-stack developers of various seniority levels, both in-house and consultants.
– Help to manage architectural decisions and technical debt of Onninen ecom products
– Work together with our product owners and stakeholders to evaluate new opportunities and decide on what to build next.
– Handle line manager responsibilities, such as 1to1’s, performance management and development discussions, developer recruitments and on-boarding.
– Given that the Onninen eCom team uses an agile approach with a Product Owner in the team, the role is more of a servant leader than overseeing day-to-day developer tasks.
What we’re looking for:
– Proven leadership experience: you have previously supported, motivated, mentored, coached, and/or empowered individuals and teams, either as manager or as a de-facto leader within a team
– An effective team player, who is also able to take on a leading role and it’s inherit responsibility
– A proven track record of creating customer value through software development – you care about impact on our customers and business, not just the tech
– Experience with working in a software development team, and a willingness to work on both the technical and human side of the equation
– Fluent communication in English, which is our working language and at least intermediate communication skills in Finnish since that is currently the corporate language.
– A degree in engineering, major in information technology, software- or web development – or equivalent experience
– Skills in order of importance from most to least important: Understanding human interaction – Coaching and mentoring team members – SysOp and DevOps skills – Coding skills – Web development – Architecture understanding – Design understanding
While we work a lot remotely, you can make it to Kalasatama in Helsinki once a week to be with the team on-site eg. for team meetings and 1-to-1’s with your team members.
Hardware retail or building contractor experience may help you better understand our customers!
