Senior WordPress Backend Developer

Are you a seasoned WordPress developer bored of building yet another media & text block? Are you ready to level up your WordPress game and work on demanding integrations, backend functionalities, and mid and large-scale WordPress websites? If so, we want you to join our team!

We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Web Developer to join one of our account teams! In this role, you’ll collaborate with project managers, developers and designers to create cutting-edge online services for diverse clients across various industries. You’ll have the opportunity to work with exciting brands, including Rinta-Joupin Autoliike, Finferries, Barona, SAK, John Nurmisen säätiö, and many more.

As a Senior Web Developer, you will:

– Be involved in every phase of a project, from scoping, estimation and ideation to development and continuous improvement
– Plan and implement technical solutions and architectures, taking technical leadership in projects
– Build not only websites but also more complex services with WordPress
– Build functionalities, plugins, integrations, CLI commands, migrations, and so on
– Create blocks, and work with themes and frontend code
– Participate in product development inside Evermade and the larger Summa Collective ecosystem
– Regularly meet with clients throughout the project to understand their needs and translate them into concrete, actionable features
– Spar with and mentor other developers and arrange code reviews for developers in your team

You may be our ideal candidate if you master your technical skills but also can lead and manage larger and complex development projects with confidence. You’re capable of working independently and making critical decisions that drive the success of the team and projects. You’ll take ownership of design and architecture, and be comfortable assuming responsibility for planning, delegating tasks, and nailing the successful execution of development initiatives while mentoring and guiding other team members.

– Strong communication skills – you’ll be working closely with clients to ensure their needs are not only understood but also translated into well-executed features. You’re able to communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical team members and will take the initiative to drive discussions and make decisions that push the project forward.
– Strategic and business-oriented thinking. You recognise our clients’ business goals and use this insight to guide development decisions with both long-term and immediate needs in projects.
– Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. You’ll help the whole team grow by sharing your knowledge and being there to support others. You’ll also be open about asking for help when you need it or bouncing ideas around with the team.
– Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
– Proactivity and initiative. You take ownership of your work and actively look for opportunities to improve processes, create value, and contribute to the team’s success. You’re able to identify where you can make an impact and don’t wait for instructions to take action.
– Several years of experience in web development
– Strong experience of mid to large-sized WordPress projects, some of them preferably with the Gutenberg editor
– Strong knowledge of PHP and MySQL
– Understanding of server technologies like NGINX, PHP-FPM, MariaDB and Redis
– Good knowledge of HTML, CSS, SCSS, Javascript and React
– Experience with integrations
– Fluency in written and spoken English

Knowledge of accessibility and/or experience with React Native is a plus!
